Spiced Plum Hot Toddy

Millie Pham

Hot toddies are already a hug in a mug, but this version?

With juicy plums and warm spices?

Next level.

It’s sweet, a little tangy, super cozy, and feels way fancier than it is.

I first made this when I had a bunch of ripe plums hanging out on the counter and didn’t want them to go to waste.

Turns out they were made for this!

Why I Love This Recipe

This is one of those drinks you make once and then crave every cold evening after. It’s comforting and has the best fruity-spice combo.
Here’s why it’s a favorite:

  • Uses fresh fruit in a fun way
  • Makes the whole house smell amazing
  • Can be made non-alcoholic for the kids or anyone skipping booze
  • Easy to make ahead and reheat

  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 2 star anise pods
  • 3 whole cloves

Pro Tips

  1. Use ripe plums – Softer ones give off the most flavor.
  2. No bourbon? No problem! This is just as delicious without it.
  3. Strain well – Nobody wants to sip a clove. Use a fine mesh strainer.
  4. Let kids join in – Make a batch without the alcohol and let them feel fancy with a warm mug of their own.
  5. Garnish matters – A cinnamon stick and plum slice look pretty and smell amazing.

Tools You’ll Need

Substitutions & Variations

  • No star anise? A dash of allspice works.
