How to Make Strawberry Boba at Home

Step 1: Preparing Ingredients

  • Fresh strawberry
  • 2 tablespoons of water
  • 2 tablespoons of sugar
  • 1 cup of tapioca starch
  • 1/2 cup strawberry milk
  • 2 fresh strawberries, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon of honey 

Step 2: Make the Strawberry Puree

To make the strawberry puree, simply take 4 to 5 fresh strawberries and wash them well.

Then, add the strawberries to a blender along with 2 tablespoons of sugar and 2 tablespoons of water.

Blend these ingredients until the mixture is smooth.

This puree will add a natural strawberry flavor and lightly pink colour to your boba, making it both delicious and refreshing.

Step 3: Add tapioca starch to the strawberry puree

Now it's time to add some body to the strawberry puree.

Sprinkle in 1/4 cup of tapioca starch and stir it into the puree until it's fully mixed in and there are no lumps. 

After it's well combined, microwave the mixture for one minute.

This step will help the starch to begin thicken the puree, setting the stage for the next part of our boba-making process.

Step 4: Start kneading until your dough is elastic

It's time to get hands-on.

Take the rest of your tapioca starch, about 3/4 cup, and add it to the mix.

Now, dive in with your hands and start kneading.

You'll want to keep going until the dough feels stretchy and pliable.

This is what gives your boba that perfect, chewy texture. 

Step 5: Roll your dough into little balls

Alright, let's shape our dough into boba pearls.

First, roll the dough out into long sticks, about the thickness of your finger.

Then, cut these sticks into small cubes.

Now, here's the fun part: take a cube between your palms and roll it back and forth.

You'll see it start to form into a little ball. It doesn't have to be perfect, but the more round they are, the better they'll roll around in your drink.

Keep going until all your cubes are transformed into round boba pearls.

Step 6: Cook your boba

Start by boiling your water, then carefully drop your boba pearls in.

Then, lower the heat so they can simmer gently. Over the next 20 minutes, keep an eye on them as they'll begin to bob up to the surface, turning a lovely transparent []. That's a sign they're cooking just right.

Once they're floating and looking good, turn off the heat. It's time for a touch of sweetness—stir in a tablespoon of honey.

This will give your boba a subtle, sweet taste.

Finally, cover the pot and let the strawberry boba sit in this sweet bath for another 20 to 30 minutes.

They'll absorb all the wonderful flavors, making sure every pearl is not just chewy, but also deliciously sweet.

Step 7: Serve with strawberry milk

Now comes the best part: putting it all together.

Start by spooning your homemade boba into a tall glass.

Next, add a handful of ice to keep things cool.

Toss in some chopped strawberries on top of the ice cubes for a burst of fruity goodness.

Pour the strawberry milk over the ice and boba until the glass is almost full.

If you like, top it off with a layer of milk foam for a creamy finish.
