Plum Galette – A Sweet and Simple Summer Dessert

Millie Pham

Hey there!
If you’ve got fresh plums and a little time, this plum galette is the easiest way to make a dessert that looks fancy but is totally chill to make.

No need to mess with pie pans or lattice crusts — just roll, fill, fold, and bake.

That’s it. It’s rustic, juicy, buttery, and sooo good with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top.

This is one of my go-to recipes when I have extra fruit lying around — my kids love it, and guests always think I worked harder than I actually did. 😉

🌸 Why I Love This Recipe

I started making galettes when I realized how low-pressure they are. They’re kind of like a pie, but way more forgiving. And with plums? The sweet-tart flavor is amazing.

  • Super simple dough — no special tools needed
  • Uses just a handful of fresh ingredients
  • Fun to make with kids — they can help arrange the fruit!
  • Looks fancy, but it’s totally rustic and cozy
  • Great way to use up summer plums

👩‍🍳 Pro Tips

  1. Use cold butter – This helps make the crust flaky.
  2. Chill the dough – Even just 30 minutes in the fridge helps it roll out better and bake up nicely.
  3. Thin plum slices – They cook faster and get that soft, jammy center.
  4. Don’t overload the fruit – Keep a single layer to avoid soggy crust.
  5. Let it cool a bit – So the juices settle and don’t run everywhere when you slice.

🛠 Tools You’ll Need

  • Mixing bowls
  • Rolling pin
  • Parchment paper
  • Baking sheet
  • Knife & cutting board
  • Pastry brush (or just your fingers!)
  • Fork

🔁 Substitutions and Variations

  • Swap plums for peaches, nectarines, or berries
  • Use store-bought pie crust to save time
  • Add almond extract for a twist
  • Sprinkle slivered almonds on top for crunch
  • Make it mini — cut dough into smaller rounds for individual galettes

⏲ Make Ahead Tips

  • You can make the dough the day before and keep it wrapped in the fridge
  • Slice your plums ahead and store in the fridge with a little lemon juice

🧊 Leftovers & Storage

  • Store leftovers in the fridge, covered, for up to 3 days
  • Reheat slices in the oven at 350°F for about 10 minutes to crisp it back up
  • Avoid microwaving — it makes the crust soggy

🍽 What to Serve With

  • Vanilla ice cream (classic!)
  • Whipped cream
  • A sprinkle of chopped nuts
  • Hot tea or iced coffee
  • Lemonade for a summery vibe

❓ FAQ

Can I use frozen plums?
Yep! Just thaw and drain them really well first.

Can I make it gluten-free?
Use a 1:1 gluten-free flour blend — the texture might be a little different, but it works.

Do I have to peel the plums?
Nope! The skin softens while baking and adds color.

Can I double the recipe?
Absolutely — make two galettes or one big rectangular one on a sheet pan.
